Question:

Nursing a boy vs a girl..?

I have a 3 year old daughter and nursed her for 4 months. Now I'm 21 weeks pregnant with a boy and am kinda feeling weird about nursing him. I AM going to nurse him, but was wondering if these feelings are weird. I feel bad for admitting it, but I'm sure I'm not the only one! I've been asked about it from some of my friends-how I feel about nursing a boy. No rude comments please!

  1. I have two boys who were both breastfed and never felt strange about it all. Actually I'm the opposite. We'll be trying for a girl soon, and like you, I WILL breastfeed but I feel a little strange when I think about nursing a girl.

I'm sure if it was vice versa and you had a boy the first time around then it would be the same. So I think it's completely natural. Once your little man is here then those feelings will probably go away, you wont think of it as nursing your boy baby, you'll just think of it as nursing your baby in general and you'll be happy knowing you're providing him the best possible nutrition he can get. =]

  2. I don't think it's weird to have these feelings.  We DO live in a society that still views b*****s as sexual organs, rather than a source of nutrition for our children. (Or, more accurately perhaps, multi-use body-parts.)

I am sure that once your baby arrives, you will not feel at all unusual about breastfeeding your baby.  Whatever the gender, he is still your baby, and your care/love/nurturing is maternal, not sexual.

  3. It's natural to feel a little weird - but once the baby is born, your feelings will change. Babies are so androgynous when they're born, girls and boys look alike and go through all the same stages early on. You won't even think about it once you hold him in your arms! Good luck

  4. I'm sure that you will be able to over come it. It might feel weird at the start for you but all will soon be forgotten..

  5. I think some women do feels the same as you do right now but I think its all in your head, you'll feel normal when you start nursing your son in the future! One thing you need to keep in mind is you nurse him out of love!

  6. There is nothing wrong about how you feel. You are perfectly normal in fact. If this really does bother you then talk to your doctor or maybe a therapist.
