Nursing home/Hospital "ghost" call light. Do you have one?

Hi, I work at a nursing home. I've worked at several before and most every home I have worked at has a story about the "ghost light".

What happens is a call light will go off when no one could have possibly pushed it. It usually happens in an empty room in after someone has died and the room is vacant.

Do you have a ghost light? I've never seen a ghost, but it is kind of weird when we get a ghost call light. It is like someone wants attention or help.

  1. My mother worked in a nursing home, and my fiancee does at the moment as well. Both of them tell me that it's common, verifiable, and my mother says that the best way to deal with it is to enter the room, notify the occupant of the room that they're dead and assure them you aren't joking. Basically, you're talking to an empty room, but she swears it works.

    My fiancee says she's going to try it when she gets back to work.

  2. Electronic devices, especially those that see frequent use, malfunction.  By their very nature, nursing homes will see a lot of people die.  Depending on how long it's been around, I wouldn't be surprised if someone has died in every room at one time or another.

    Do you think this could be a "phenomenon" that people in the industry are aware of and which some mischievous people take an active role in perpetuating?  You know, like the phantom sh***er?

  3. Sounds like an electric fault.

    Does it ever happen that the light goes off and when you get to the patient they are asleep or deny that they pushed the call button?

  4. Yes..what you are talking about is a common occurance in places where death is frequent, but you already know that. The responder who said to talk with the spirit even if you can not see them is correct and you are correct in your assumption that somebody wants attention and help. That is why people need to take a minute to explain to the spirit that their physical body has died which is why they no longer feel the pain or other discomforts/limitations that they did before. This helps them to understand that they really have physically died as well as understanding that they are much better than they were before death. Keep in mind that it is often the spirits Love and desire to watch over and help someone who is STILL living, that keeps them earthbound. This is especially true of an older person who has been married for many years with a living spouse who is also old and frail. The spirit needs to be told to go into the light and look for their Loved ones who have crossed before them. I know that loved ones who have passed are there when someone dies, but I dont know how long they readily available if the newly dead refuse to go with them at time of death. Gods light is always there and the spirit knows it, but is choosing to watch over the living instead of doing what is right for themselves by going into the light. Reassure the spirit that once they have gone into the light, that they will still be able to come back and watch over their loved ones but can do it even better than they are now because the light will teach them how. If you are uncomfortable talking with the spirit world you can do the same thing by writing a letter of explanation and placing it on the wall of room where the call light has come on. Just make sure you retrieve it before the next shift comes on unless your ready to answer some questions!!! LOL  LOL!! I know of a nursing home in NV, who had a laminated letter like this which was kept at the desk for just this reason. If you have any doubts about a spiritual presence hitting the call light, take a small tape recorder with you when go to turn the light off. With the recorder going, ask a couple of questions in the empty room waiting 5 to 10 seconds between the questions. Take recorder back to the desk and play it back. Just dont freak out if you hear a response on the recorder you didn't hear in the room!!!  LOL  LOL  It may or may not work the first time or two you try it and I think that is due to person with the tape recorders own fear of the unknown and not the spirits willingness. Keep it up and you WILL get results!!!  Hope this helps you AND the lost spirits!!! Good Luck!!

    Why does this question show as being from Malaysia??? I am in USA.

      EDIT ======================

    A Thumbs down??  LOL LOL!!  Everybody must face death of a loved one at some point. I wonder if the downer would DARE to put a tape recorder in the room of a dieing person and let it record through to the end? Just to increase their chances of recording a passed but loving spirit, they could put a note near the recorder stating that if the recording light was on on the recorder, that the spirit could leave a message that all the could hear. I wonder, assuming that the downer had enough courage to try it in the first place, if they would c**p their drawers when they actually heard a response from the spiritual realm?  Just wondering.

  5. my sister used to work at a nursing home, and she would talk about things like that happening. She said everyone just got used to it.

  6. My Mom was a nurse at a local Nursing Home and they had one also.  They also had a big red dog (that looked like an Irish Setter) that did not belong to anyone that they were aware of.  But if some of the staff noticed this dog on the property, usually outside of of the patients windows, it would not be long before they would have a death.  When I say not long, it might be on that shift or later in the day.  Several people tried to feed or pet the dog, but it would always run away into the surrounding woods.  That might just be a coincidence, but I think that there might have been something to it considering that it happened with so much regularity.  Even if you consider that a nursing home has patients who are not well and are not going to recover, still, that is a lot of sightings.

  7. I work in a hospital.  I have  never heard of any problems with call lights but we certainly have our share of unexplained phenomena.   For some reason there is more activity in the heart cath lab than anywhere else in the hospital.

  8. No i don't have a light that turns on by its self. But if you are really worried about it call a paranormal investigate and the might be able to help.
