30,000 units of Heparin are added to 150cc of NS. The order is to infuse at 1,800 units per hour. Drop factor is 60. How many gtts/min?

  1. 30000/150 = 200 units per ml.

    1800/200 = 9 ml per hour

    9 x 60 gtts/ml = 540 gtts/hr.

    540 gtts/hr / 60 min = 9 gtts/min.  Nice thing about microdrops.

    In reality you would use a pump, but you still need to know the math.
