Question:

Nursing moms, how can we make her milk come in?

Hi, maybe someone can help us. My sister had her twins at 32 weeks on Monday. She wants to nurse them, but she does not have any milk yet. She tried everything, pumping, massage, shower, etc. She is not allowed to pick up her babies yet, thus they do not stimulate her milk production.

How can we help her? She really wants to nurse.

  1. Normally milk doesn't come in until day five or so.  Keep up the frequent pumping and eventually it will come in.  One day I just woke up and my b***s were engorged, my milk had come in over night.

  2. here is some info

tell herr to pump every 2 hours for about 15 minutes.

also try taking fenugreek- its an herbal supplement that you can get from the health food store- tell ehr to take 3 capsule 3 times a day

  3. It can take up to 7 days for your milk to come in...until then you produce colostrum for the baby.  Keep pumping at least every 3 hours.  When is she going to be allowed to nurse?  She can do this, please give her support and help her as much as you possible can.

  4. I had my daughter at 32 weeks and my son at 35they were in nicu, I had to drink lots of water and pump every 3 hours..especially at night if she wakes up around 3am to pump a little she will start to produce more milk.

It will take a little while to come through but when it does there is a medication that can be prescribed by a doc called donperindone, i take it and it helps to boost your milk supply.

Also i used to go to the hospital every single day and breastfeed atleast 1 feed through the day...even if she has no milk the babies suckling will get it going.

Hope this helps and good luck.
