Heya - i think i've got it down to these two careers... I will have two school age boys when I start studying/working towards these careers so they would need to fit in with them.

I just dont want to go back to the office and have a real compassion for people, I just can't decide in both. Anyone got any suggestions or tips or are working in either? I think I really want to help kids, I love maternity and babies - however both of these work with it! (the teaching would be for me a way to lead on to helping kids)

HELP?? (if this even ended up a question) hehe

  1. it's up to you. you're the one who has the live with the job. start making pros and cons of each job. perhaps being a teacher would fit more into you and your boys' schedules. you'll have weekends, nights, holidays and summers off. being a nurse would be much more demanding with time as far as school and career-wise goes. good luck with your choice.

  2. Early childhood is limited to the specific area of children, whereas nursing is quite broad - so you can work in a variety of different areas (e.g. maternity ward; paediatrics etc), so it is more flexible. This will also allow you to work with a variety of different people, as well as children. Nursing is also quite flexible when it comes to what hours you want to do aswell.

Look, its ultimately up to you. If you had to flip a coin up in the air and chose on or the other, you'd know in your heart of hearts what you want to do.

    Wish you all the best!

  3. Here is some advice that helped me............life working in medicine isn't cute little babies and happy shining soon to be Moms.  In all reality babies crash and die right after they are born.  Moms get into car accidents and both her and her baby dies.  Moms go through a full delivery and deliver a still born.  Reality is working on a maternity floor isn't cute babies and happy Mommies.

EDIT: Very true that you can do your best to make the situation better.  I said the same thing when I got a similar answer to my similar question.  Good luck with whatever your outcome is.

  4. If yours is a nuclear family, then teaching wud b a betr option coz u can finish ur record/project after thev,ve slept.!

For nursin u may hav t to work in the hospital at odd hours and that is possible only wen theres someone  capable lukin after the kids!!

Anyway gud luck with ur decision!

  5. if you want stable hours go into early edu.  most are mon-fri days only.  nursing is any shift most of the time.  but if you want more diversity and a chance at a better pay structure, go with nursing.  early ed. pays very low but most times you can take your kids with you.

so, better hours, take your kids-ed.

better pay, better chance for advancement-nursing.

  6. maybe you should go into pediactrics care
