Nursing puppies slightly dehydrated?

My Great Dane had puppies August 9th, yesterday one threw up his milk and I thought he ate too much too fast but in the last 24 hours two more have done the same. They also moan like they have tummy aches, I have been stimulating them to poo and that has helped a little. no one has thrown up since last night but a couple are a little dehydrated, it is sunday and they are going to see the vet in the morning but what can I do tonight? Mom's milk and nipples all look, feel, & smell fine as does her discharge. She has some diarrhea but I think that is from cleaning up babies and too much rich canned food, i have her back on boiled chicken and rice for a couple of days.

  1. Keep Mum on the chicken and rice, the pup's are ingesting too much rich food due to the tinned meat hence the throwing up. Its not your fault by the way, i'd be tempted to put a big girl like Mum back on her tinned food but perhaps its a little too soon for the babies. Good on you for booking the vets appointment for the morning, it shows how responsible and caring you are! Another few days and Mum can have her proper dinner back ha ha, try giving her plenty of par-boiled veg like broccoli and carrots mixed in with her dinner plus lots of roughage like biscuits. For tonight, give her a couple of hard boiled eggs, they'll bind her up and calm down the runs and a handful of dry biscuit mix. Good luck.

  2. Is the mother up to date on all her shots?  Was she seen by the vet early in the pregnancy?

I would buy Gatorade and let Mom drink it.  It is full of electrolytes that all mammals need.

Mom should be stimulating them to p**p.  Try the Gatorade (get a couple flavors) and the vet will know what further to do.

Pinch their tummy skin and if they are dehydrated it will stay 'pinched' for a few seconds.  That is a dehydration sign.
