Nurvita Hanadia, Devi Tika seal Women’s Doubles trophy in Victorian International 2012
Indonesia’s talented female shuttlers Nurvita Hanadia Keshya and Devi Tika Permatasari stamped their supremacy in Women’s Doubles event of Li Ning Victorian International on June 30, 2012.
They thrashed local team Leanne Choo-Renuga Veeran in the title match and clinched the trophy by registering final figure of 21-13 and 21-11.
This final match kept both contenders busy for 35 minutes and audience commended this splendid show of skills.
The local crowd was expecting the natives to secure the honour but their hopes got buried when Australian girls crashed out in a disgraceful manner.
On the other hand, the Indonesians showed strong character during the tense battle and stood tall to their stature.
In first set of the match, Nurvita Hanadia and Devi Tika employed interesting tactics against superior contenders as they kept a low profile in the beginning and then dazzled them with an electrifying performance in the end.
They had sluggish start which resulted in a 2-5 total after a couple of gruelling rallies. They remained at lower end until 5-8 but then they switched on their best performance.
They launched an effective counter-attack strategy and caught their competitors at 8-8. They did not lose this rhythm and finished first half with 11-9 margin on the board.
After one-minute break, Leanne Choo and Renuga Veeran failed to revive their lost form and kept trailing behind all the way to game point situation. The Australians could not read their rivals’ game and kept hanging by a thread to stay alive.
Meanwhile, Nurvita-Devi struck hard to grab 10 out of last 14 points. They bagged first set with a significant margin of 21-13.
The Indonesians ruled the court in the following game as they finished this segment of the match in an impressive manner.
In first half, they made difference with a swift progress from 3 to 8 on points table. They put a respectable figure of 11-6 at mid-game break.
Later part of the game also proved a flat contest as the local shuttlers lacked good finishing skills and faced a sticky end.
Nurvita and Devi swept the table with an overwhelming 21-11 score and claimed Women’s Doubles crown of this International Challenge.
