Question:

Nut/Shellfish Allergies Disqualifying from Marines?

I have life threatening food allergies to peanuts, nuts, and shellfish, but I really want to join the Marines - my parents are pushing me to go through ROTC. Would this automatically disqualify me from being in the Marines (through ROTC or otherwise)?

  1. ..not sure about nuts, but i know shellfish isn't.

i'm like 98% sure that nut allergies aren't disqualifying and

100% sure shellfish isn't, because i'm allergic to it and am enlisted in the Marines.

    good luck!

you'll probably have better luck talking to a recruiter, and explain the severity of your allergies to him, s/he'll help you out.

  2. Food allergies that are so severe as to produce an anaphylactic reaction (life threatening) are disqualifying for entry into all branches of the armed forces. The source below is the medical standard which applies.
