I am 13 years old and have been dancing ballet for 11 years. I am so exited because my mom finally is letting me try out for the only full length nutcracker near my town with a 70 piece orchestra! I am a little nervous though, any tips on keeping cool while standing out?

  1. recently i tried out for and made the southwest virginia ballet company which i now love.  we will be doing the nutcracker in december (my first nutcracker also).  during the audition, smile as brightly as you can, dance your best, and try to exude utmost confidence even if you make a mistake.  it worked for me for my company!  if you feel nervous, try to talk to girls/guys who've already done the nutcracker who are at the audition.  they'll give you tips and make you feel more relaxed.  also, meet the auditioner personally and try to figure out what he/she looks for in a dancer.

  2. Try your best, look clean and fresh (No floppy bun, holes in tights, or colored leos if it is not allowed), relax in front of the judges, and smile even if you mess up. Good luck and have fun!

  3. Be confident. if ur not confident with your dancing then choreographerswont be confident in you either. Always concentrate on what ur doing dont worry about anything else. Smile because it lets teachers and such know that you have fun with dancing, but also be serious. But you probly already know these things and im sure youll do fine.

    God bless:D

  4. Don't think about trying to impress people to hard. You just need to be confident and doing your best. Remember to have lots of energy and enthusiasm. Remember to SMILE.

When the Jeffery came to my town, they held auditions for some smaller parts. I definetly didnt think I would make it. But I just followed people's advice and wa-lah! I was accepted!!!

  5. Well, every year i have tried out for Nutcracker, and every year i get at least 3 parts. My advise is to stay focused, learn the combination's, don't be afraid to ask questions ( make sure you don't ask more than two questions the teacher's will get annoyed.), be your self, make sure your attire and hair including shoes are apporpriate and are neat, pointe shoes should have ribbons look clean and have been worn at least once, flat shoes have them clean put elstic on them (no ribbons unless your studio does that) Pink shoes are preffered, unless your a male dancer. One last thing smile. Good luck!
