Question:

Nutramigen Formula-- Switching on your own?

My son had very bad constipation from similac advance at 2 weeks old, his pediatrician switched him to Nutramigen from the very start. The constipation was gone immediately. I dont think that my baby has any "protein allergies" because he only tried 1 other formula so, do you think i should try to switch him to plain enfamil with iron to see how it goes or continue on Nutramigen. I feel bad giving him Nutramigen since it is the least tastiest formula.

Thanks

  1. If you are going to change formulas, it should be done gradually over a couple of weeks. Start with five parts old to 1 part new, then increase the ratio after a few days. Continue to increase the proportion of new formula until it is all enfamil. If you notice any adverse reactions, see your doctor.

  2. If he takes it ok leave him on it. If not, then talk to  your Dr. about helping you find another one.

  3. If you are not having problems why switch and cause your baby problems. How many things has your baby tasted ? All formula is nasty and they like it. As long as hes getting along on it leave him alone.

  4. keep him on nutramigen, if it works why put your baby through switching different formulas? Right now, he doesnt care about the taste. All he cares about is getting that tummy filled in the least painful and gassy way as possible.

  5. You could try Nestle Good Start.  The proteins are partially broken down as well in that formula.

  6. If he's doing well with Nutramigen, I would leave him on it.  Any way, the same dairy proteins are in Similac that are in Enfamil.  Taste doesn't matter to a newborn.  If he's content drinking it, then he thinks it's tasty.

  7. I would leave him on it if he seems content with it.Why change the formula when he is settled and contented with this one and he is now use to it.Changing his formula can cause him some constipation again and he may notice the taste difference and reject it,so i would leave him while he is happy.
