As a vegan in recovery from anorexia, I'm trying to incorporate more vitamin rich foods into my new diet regimen. One of the foods that has been recommended to me is nutritional yeast. I've tried looking for the nutritional information of it online, but I can't find any. I need to know it all: how much is a serving, as well as the content of calories, fat, and any vitamins and minerals it may contain. Please help!! I have to keep track of all of this stuff.

  1. B4 i aanswered i did a little research for us.  o.k. been using "Kal Nutritional Yeast" for 25 yrs.  it is the Best & tastey - not mediciney.  found a great place that has what you're asking for-i.e. nutritional factn'stuff about yeast.

go to:  Seacoast Vitamins.com - put in Kal Nutritional Yeast flakes, go to bottom of page as you scroll down you'll see a chart - wha-la your info & mine this is the best!  hope this helps  :)  p.s. - i hope you get well fast!

  2. I know it has alot of B12, which is something the meat industry always says we "can't" get from a vegan diet (some people are even ignorant enough to say that we can't get enough B12 on a VEGETARIAN diet) LOL.. study nutriton people.. we don't even NEED that much B12.. but anyway, ranting aside.. Nutritional yeast is yummy and has some good vitamins for you. I put it on popcorn (yum) in tofu, in gravy.. many places..

As someone also suffering from an ED, you HAVE to put your recovery first, above your dietary preferences. I'm not saying you can't be veggie or vegan, but IF veganism conflicts with ED recovery, you have to put the recovery first. For example, veganism is SOO healthy that it could be  hard to GAIN weight on a vegan diet. If you still have to gain weight, you may have to "wait" to be strictly vegan, until you are at a healthy weight. Being in your healthy weight range, as you probably know, is the #1 essential thing to avoiding relapse.. Your life depends on it.. so, anyway.. please take care of yourself.

Uhm.. why are you worrying about calories?  Be careful that you're not in denial.  Make sure you're doing everything you need to do to avoid relapse (something like 50% of "recovered" anorexics relapse within the first year!)
