Nuva Ring 4 weeks still bleeding...is this normal?

I am doing the 4 weeks in with no "ring free" week then replacing with a new ring.

Ok month one on the ring....started day one of my period..No problems. I did however start spotting (break through bleeding) just a couple of days before the "ring free week" (I never took the ring free break). I have continued to bleed since. (I am now on second month and it's the ring free week again (again not taken). The last couple of weeks my bleeding has been from spotting to light...sometimes with clots..or even sometimes just some small clots all by themselves. So yesterday I was supposed to technically take out the ring for the ring free week. I did not and this morning I wake up and the bleeding is heavy. Next Monday I am supposed to replace the ring.

I know it's normal to have breakthrough bleeding for the first few months....but really...is this break through bleeding? Should I continue and see if it gets better after the 3rd month?

  1. Yes, this can still be breakthrough bleeding.  It can occur too by keeping the thing in by allowing more hormones in to the body.

Breakthrough bleeding can act a lot like an actual period although it isn't.  If you start to get clots the size that are bigger than a quarter start counting them and let your doctor know what's going on.

I would say give it another month (the 3rd month) to see what happens but go ahead and check with your doctor as well to see what they say.
