Question:

Nuva Ring and Bleeding?

I have been on the Nuva Ring for 2 months. I am doing the 4 weeks in with no break. Just a couple of days before week three I had break through bleeding. I never took the ring out I have continued to bleed since. I am now on second month and it's the ring free week again. I thought about taking the ring out, but I'm afraid of having more bleeding. It's been almost 4 weeks now with bleeding. The last few weeks my bleeding has been from spotting to light...sometimes with clots..or even sometimes just some small clots all by themselves. This week the bleeding his heavier with more clots (none very large or too concerning just annoying)plus I have had cramps for some time now. Should I take the ring out to finish the ring free week and risk more bleeding or just wait till next month, giving my body more time to adjust. I am do to replace the ring next week and will be taking the ring free break with that ring as scheduled.

  1. Were you instructed by your doctor to skip your periods?  If not then you shouldn't be doing that more than very occasionally!

What you have is your body trying to adjust not only to the new hormones but to the fact that it still wants to have a "cycle" of sorts.

I'd strongly recommend that you discuss your problem with your prescribing doctor.  And maybe not skip your periods for a while.  Try getting on a regular 3 week on/1 week off cycle before skipping a period now and then and see what happens.
