  1. Look at the Web site of the tourime at Nunavut.

  2. If travelling in the summer paddle or hike in the Thelon Wildlife sanctuary to see caribou and muskox.I think the lower part of the Thelon is fairly easy to canoe.

Bring mosquito headnet, bug shirt, lightweight longsleeve shirts and pants.

Might want to go with others or join a guided trip. There are lots of bears.

Hanging out in a small town might be interesting, especially if you meet some of the inhabitants.

  4. Nunavut is a very expensive place to visit, so before you plan a visit to Nunavut, make sure you plan for the cost.  Flights to Iqaluit, the capital, from southern Canada are about $1500 return for one person.  To stay at a hotel in Iqaluit will cost about $250 or more per night, and if  you have to buy meals that will cost about $120 to 150 per person per day.  For example, breakfast will be about $20 to $25.  You can opt to buy groceries at the local stores, but be prepared for prices about 4 times as much as in the south.

Iqaluit itself is an interesting town, and you could probably do some guided trips from there.  But to really see Nunavut you would  need to fly from Iqaluit to one of the more remote communites.  I can recommend Pangnirtung and Pond Inlet for sure, known as the jewels of the north because of the fantastic scenery of both communities.  Accommodations in each community will be more than in Iqaluit, and choices of places to stay will be far less, so you need to make arrangements ahead of time.  Sometimes if you can get a contact you can stay in an apartment of someone who has gone south for the summer.  Flights from Iqaluit to Pond Inlet will be about $1500 return for one person, and to Pangnirtung they will be less because it is closer to Iqaluit.    Another popular destination is Resolute Bay, the "jumping off" place for people who want to go to the north pole.

Here are links for the town of Iqaluit and for First Air, one of the airlines that serves the north.  You should also check Canadian North airline's website. Best of luck with your plans.
