  1. YES B UT DONT TRY TO BECOME CLOSER TO THEM THAN THEIR PARENTS

  2. What do you need to know?

    how to develop relationships:

-positive body language-get down to their level, eye contact, smiles, open arms (not folded) etc.

    -happy tone of voice

-ask them questions-makes them feel inportant and interesting!

-Let them have time to get answer out-for some children it can take time!

-Have fun with them-dont make everything about group times, sitting down working, just watching them-you need to interact and play together!

-Have activities suitable for their age and development-if you give them something hard or too easy you'll dent their selfesteem and ruin the relationship.

Or why should we develop relationships:

-so children are happy and when happy will achieve better.

-to support parents feel secure leaving child with us.

-to develop their communication and personal and social and emotional skills.

-to ensure that we understand childs needs and able to plan appropriately.

-having secure relationships when young encourages secure relationships as child gets older (theory of Bowlby)

  3. Postive relationships are developed when carers take an interest in the children in their care, each as unique and separate individuals with thier own specail qualities, abilities and interests. In order to develop relationships with children you must interact with them, talk and listen, care about their lives and their families, be aware of their culture  and generally take an interest in them as people. children know genuine!!
