  1. It is important that children are given appropriate challenges and opportuniuties to assess risks, according to their development so that they can develop skills in problem solving and also be physicllay challenged, mentally challenged, in oredr to learn about new situations.

I would say that you must point out in your response to this question that children's safety is paramount however children need to be given appropraite opportunities to assess and take risks in order to learn in life. It is about providing a balance. For example, a child who is developing the physical skills required for climbing needs to be able to take risks when climbing on safe and appropriate equipment without an adult rushing over and telling them to get down before they hurt themselves!! Adults can often impose their own fears and anxieties on children and hinder their development. Hope this helps#

As a baby becomes more mobile, they need to be able to assess their ability to get form a to b, so they learn to navigate a pathway and to avoid obstacles. A toddler needs to experiment with different materials and equipment to find out about the way things work. They often use a variety of senses to do this and make decisions about things for instance when they put playdough on their mouth and discover it is salty, they usually assess that it is not a good idea to eat it and spit it out! Skipping on to a child of say seven , they need to assess and mange the risks of crossing the road to the park perhaps or stroking a dog! The main thing is that the risks are appropriate to the child's stage of development, hence you would not allow a child of three to attempt to cross the road alone!! Hope this makes sense
