Nyjer Morgan shines as Milwaukee Brewers defeat Pittsburgh Pirates 2-1 - MLB Update

Milwaukee Brewers’ centre-fielder, Nyjer Morgan showed an outstanding performance with the bat as he hit a leading sacrifice fly in 10th inning to give Brewers a 2-1 victory against Pittsburgh Pirates at Miller Park, Milwaukee on August 14.
Pirates got off to a decent start as Andrew McCutchen hit a ground rule double to deep left-field and Garrett Jones posted a single run to give them a 1-0 lead, at the top of first inning. The pitchers surpassed batters from second to seventh inning as they
pitched perfectly. At the bottom of second inning, Mark Kotsay drove a single-run shot to centre-field but Yuniesky Betancourt flied out without scoring even a single run.
In sixth inning, Pirates’ batters missed scoring opportunities as at centre-field, Neil Walker flied out while McCutchen and Ryan Ludwick both were grounded out to second base. Similarly, at the bottom of sixth inning, Morgan walked but at centre-field,
Prince Fielder flied out and Shaun Marcum struck-out.
Pedro Alvarez got his way back to dressing room when he was grounded out to second base while Michael McKenry lined out. During seventh inning, Betancourt grounded out and Craig Counsell struck-out without contributing any run. Brewers’ batters tied the
game 1-all at the bottom of eighth inning when Ryan Braun hit a single-run drive towards centre-field and Jerry Hairston Jr. scored one run. Morgan moved to second base to end the eighth inning.
Morgan said, “I was just trying to get a pitch to hit to the outfield. I was so fired up I didn't run at first, until I heard my teammates yelling at me to get to first.”
Brewers’ manager, Ron Roenicke said, “That was a huge break for us. When things are going great for a team, you seem to get a lot of these types of breaks.”
The game stayed level until the ninth inning as the pitchers had great control over their pitches. Marcum pitched just over seven innings and surrendered one run, five hits, two walks and one earned run with an ERA of 3.50. He was able to strike-out five
batters on his 116 pitches.
In the additional 10th inning of the game, Brewers went ahead 2-1 when Morgan bunted a sacrifice fly to right-field and George Kottaras posted a leading run. However, Brewers swept the Pirates 3-0 in the three-game series played at Miller Park.
