Nyjer Morgan sparks as Milwaukee Brewers defeat St. Louis Cardinals 6-2 - MLB Update
Milwaukee Brewers’ centre-fielder, Nyjer Morgan was brilliant with the bat as he hit three RBIs and posted one run with 2-for-5 in the Brewers’ 6-2 win against the St. Louis Cardinals at Miller Park, Milwaukee on August 1.
Cardinals started pretty well as they posted two initial runs to get a 2-0 lead in the very first inning. Matt Holliday struck a two-run homer (364 feet) towards right-field and Rafael Furcal added a single run. Cardinals remained on top until the fourth
inning as the pitchers threw the ball in right line from the second to fourth inning.
In the second inning, Yadier Molina singled to centre-field but Skip Schumaker struck-out swinging, David Freese grounded out to short-stop and Furcal flied out to right-field without giving the Cardinals some runs. Similarly, the Brewers also looked powerless
in the first four innings.
At the bottom of the fourth inning, Ryan Braun struck-out swinging while Prince Fielder and Felipe Lopez both were grounded out to first base. The Brewers opened their scoring account with a blast and posted five runs to take a 5-2 lead at the bottom of
the fifth inning. Jonathan Lucroy singled to left-field and Yuniesky Betancourt added one run. Casey McGehee scored a single run on the drive of Corey Hart towards centre-field.
Hart said, “We feel like we have that extra confidence here, but for whatever reason the fans get so behind us and we feel like we're never out of anything.... Winning the first one is huge.”
The last three runs during the fifth inning were taken by Lucroy, Hart and Zack Greinke when Morgan hit a double-run drive to deep centre-field and lifted the potential of the Brewers. In the sixth inning, the pitchers struck out the batters on their extraordinary
pitches. Greinke pitched well for the Brewers as he threw six innings and gave up just two earned runs with an ERA of 4.41.
Greinke presented seven hits and two runs with only one walk. He had five strike-outs on his 103 pitches. In the seventh inning, the Brewers took their lead 6-2 by adding one run to their score-card. Braun doubled off right-centre and Morgan contributed
the last run for the Brewers.
With this impressive win, the Brewers went ahead with a 1-0 lead in the three-game series played at Miller Park.
