We will be moving from nelson to hawkes bay soon. My son is going to start school next year. Since we have just moved here from australia, I am wondering how my son will get on in school. What are the kids like compared to aussie schools?

I was wondering if you knew of any really friendly privite schools in the hastings/napier/havelock north area.

Thanks

  1. The only Private Schools I know of in the region are Te Aute and Woodford.

However, a check of the Hawkes Bay Yellow Pages will give you a full listing.

You haven't given any indication as to which part of the Bay you are going to, so there's no point in me looking it up for specific schools. You could be Tutira, Kuripapango, Maraekokaho, or Onga Onga, or even Wimbledon. Nearly every settlement has its school.

A free bus service is provided by the school if the child lives more than 2 miles from a school (Three miles for a secondary school). This service is not door to door and the child may still be expected to walk up to 2 miles to a point where the bus stops. (Miles has now been converted to metrics).

But NZ schools are much like Oz schools except that in this country children must commence school on their 5th birthday.

Actually, the Yellow Pages aren't much help - I've just done a quick check; try the White Pages.
