O.J Mayo continued his good run with another spectacular shooting performance for Dallas Mavericks, guiding them to a 114-91 victory over Portland Trail Blazers at the American Airlines Center here on Monday. The game was much
closer than the score line suggests. It was a close call in the first three quarters of the game but the Mavericks blew away in the final quarter thanks to some hot shooting.
Mavericks started well, going 6-0 early. Mayo aced two three pointers in quick succession to make it 20-10 for Mavericks. Matthews made a driving jump short to cut it to 14-20 for the Trail Blazers. They closed the gap in the final
stages of the quarter, which ended at 31-27 for the Mavericks.
The second quarter started pretty evenly, but the Trail Blazers gradually inched back and cut the Mavericks lead to make it 43-43 half way through it. Both teams kept scoring regularly and the score was tied again at 53. Mavericks
took a minor lead at the end of the second quarter to make it 57-55.
Marion started the second half with a driving layup and Mayo scored a three pointer to make it 62-55. He then nailed another one shortly to make it 65-57 for the Mavericks. Matthews replied immediately with a three pointer to make
it 60-65 for the Blazers and started a Portland push, which saw the scores tied at 67. The third quarter ended with a four point lead for Mavericks, 83-79.
It seemed the game will go down to the wire but it was not to be as Mavericks took control early in the quarter and after allowing the Trail Blazers to make it a two point game, they erupted with a 17-4 spurt to make it 102-87
nearly halfway through the fourth quarter. Blazers did not threaten after the Mavs’ assault and the game ended at 114-91.
