O’ Shea and his will power for darts
The quarter final of BDO Darts Championship could not have been as exciting ever. Stunning results and astonishing performances provided the encounter the look it needed.
However, it was the conclusion and the end results of the game that proved to be jaw dropping not only for the audience, but for all darts fans.
They never expected the two-time winner, Martin Adams, to face defeat at such a crucial stage of the championship but to put it as honestly as possible, it was O’Shea’s day.
He was able to outclass his opponent in almost every facet of the game.
Adams had to settle for the fact that he could not meet prominent players like Eric Bristow or others who have earlier acquired this status.
Experts were obviously betting high on Adams simply because of the reputation and career he possesses.
O’ Shea, on the other hand, was not being considered a weak opponent but, at the same time, the level of stakes placed were of no comparison.
Along with this, it is also important to mention here that Adams tried his level best to bounce back into the game at a number of instances.
However, each time his aggression had to face destitution in front of the ingenious strategy developed by Silverback.
Although placed in the category of highly calm and tranquil players, a prominent and highly distinctive feature of Adams game is that he never loses his grip on the game.
Even when he is winning, he behaves as if it is ordinary for him and never gives a gesture through which he gives a feeling of overconfidence to his opponent.
However, it was this particular characteristic that placed him in a different category of players.
At some instances of the game, one could literally feel the pressure mounting on him when he was releasing his darts.
This ultimately manifested itself in the form of the performance he was delivering during that time.
Once O’Shea was sure that he has got hold of his opponent, he was then rolling all over him. All attempts made by Adams to bounce back into the game were obliterated by O’Shea.
Experts say that it was primarily because of the immense pressure Adams had due to which a sudden dip in his performance was observed, especially in an event like the quarter final.
People were expecting a lot from him and it was precisely this burden of expectations that he could not endure.
This is something normal for players all over the world. 15-time champion Phil Taylor went through a similar experience when he had to suffer from his knock out from the recently held Ladbrokes Darts Championship.
In the wake of satisfying the audience, he lost grip on what he could have easily controlled.
After Adams, it was O’ Shea who was being termed as the second best contender for the trophy and once Wolfie suffered the departure, all eyes were glued on O’ Shea.
He will now be meeting the Dutch opponent, Wesley Harms, in the semis of the grand event.
Darts pundits have once again placed high bets on O’Shea coming as a heavy opponent for the Dutch player.
Nevertheless, the probability of any upset taking place cannot be marginalised at the same time.
However, one thing is for sure that the upcoming competitions in the BDO event will definitely add more spark and excitement for the audience.
