O Ye Gyong, a shuttler from the People’s Republic of Korea, proved her worth by beating Russia’s Anna Markevich in the Women’s Singles qualifying round of the Russian Open Grand Prix 2011. The encounter was held in Russia, on Tuesday, June 28, 2011.
Gyong opened her campaign against the local shuttler in an impressive manner, as she took no time in setting up a wonderful lead of 11-5, until the interval of the opening set. The difference between skill level of Gyong and Anna was huge as the Russian was trailing behind her opponent in the whole set. In the following game of the match, Anna started to compete in the initial points. However, the aggressive play of Gyong forced her to give up at the end of the opening part of the game, where she was trailing miles behind at 4-11.
After the interval in the second game, Gyong continued her dominance in the match. Anna lost her focus by making many unforced errors in the game. She became slow in the second set, as her physical fitness was not that good to put up a strong show against Gyong, who was picking the bird early from all areas of the court.
Gyong finished off the second game in terrific fashion with a dramatic margin of 21-8. This one-sided match ended in 21 minutes with the concluding score of 21-12 and 21-8.
