If you are not fluent,  learn the basics of Spanish--the resort do not always make a concerted effort to understand their guests.  Also do not take random taxis off the resort--price gouging  occurs frequently.

Bring loose fitting, light clothing, sturdy sandals and flipflops, 1-2 nights nice clothing (sundress and shoes), sunscreen, bug spray.  Pack light and you'll have a more enjoyable time.

If you want to go somewhere off-resort, ask the concierge at the hotel.  If they don't have a shuttle, they'll get a cab or city bus for you.
