I llive in Japan and they are taught always to back into a space rather than reverse out of one ..

Wouldn`t it be a good idea to have a public safety campaign to teach this to the ameican public, and hopefully save kids lives

  1. Your figures are wrong.

In 2002 there were 116 childrens killed by being backed over.

In 2003 there were 143 childrens killed by being backed over.

In 2004 there were 121 childrens killed by being backed over.

In 2005 there were 157 childrens killed by being backed over.

In 2006 there were 132 childrens killed by being backed over.

In 2007 there were 174 childrens killed by being backed over.

  2. I am not sure about the numbers,  but one a year is one too many.

For this reason,  a driver should walk around their vehicle,  or at least across the direction they anticipate moving.   For instance,  if they are going to back out,  they need to walk across the back of the car before getting in.    Completely around would be better to see that all sides are clear,  no pets under tires,  no bikes leaning against the far side,   etc....

  3. I don't know where you read that, but it isn't true.
