O ring help!!!!? plplzplzplzplzpzlpzlpzl and o rings are rubbery band thingies?

o rings are things that look like small elastic, rubberry bands that fit in lots of things, i need those for MIT and i wanna know if you could use regular LEGO rubber bands for it? and also if possible plz tell me where to buy o rings in northvancouver, BC, canada

o rings  come in a lot of different materials, rubber, buna-n, silicone etc. for specific apps. a really good hardware store should have the size and mat'l you need
