OAMPS Queensland Blades clobbers Tasmania Tigers by 5-1 in Australian Hockey League
In a one-side contest, the men’s hockey team of OAMPS Queensland Blades marked a commanding 5-1 triumph over Tasmania Tigers in the Round V of the Australian Hockey League (AHL) that took place on June 26, 2011 at the Tasmania Hockey Centre.
The OAMPS Queensland won all the five games played so far and is currently holding the number one position on the points’ table. They marked 16 goals and conceded only six goals in the five games, which they have played. On the other hand, the Tasmania
Tigers is currently holding the sixth position with six points to their credit. They played five games but won only a single game.
As per the expectations, the match was played single-handedly and only players from Queensland were seen on the field.
In quite an unmatched way, both teams entered in the field in quite a mature way and displayed a cautious style of play in the opening minutes. The opening period was filled with brilliant moves accomplished from both teams. However, the defensemen
from both the Queensland and the Tasmania Tigers teams demonstrated an impressive show-off in the early minutes and blocked numerous shots.
However, the twist in the game came, when Peter Dillon of Queensland scored first goal of the game through a field effort. He made a lengthy run, took the ball into the 25-yard line of the Tasmania Tigers, and slammed a short into the net to open the
scoring at 1-0. The Tasmania Tigers continued attacking Queensland’s goal and succeeded to draw the score in the 18th minute of the game. Will Lawler got the ball under his control and sent a shot into the
goal-post to level the score at 1-1.
In a matter of one minute, Matthew Swann notched a goal from the field effort and regained a single-goal advantage, 2-1. The speed of the game had increased with these two back-to-back goals. However, the defending players managed to control the game
with their brilliant moves. These were the only goals in the early period as the first half of play concluded with Queensland hanging on a solitary goal edge, 2-1.
The short break between the two halves further boosted the strength of Queensland, which obtained another three goals, while holding the opponent score-less throughout the round. Mark Knowles scored a goal in the 49th minute
of the match, which stretched the Queensland’s edge up to two goals. His team-mates, Michael Bates and Jacob Whetton, notched one goal each in the 66th and 69th minute of the match and confirmed their convincing
victory at 5-1.
