OAMPS Queensland Scorchers, Victorian Vipers win in Australian Hockey League: Hockey Recap
In the second day of the Australian Hockey League round two, OAMPS Queensland Scorchers and Victorian Vipers took Tasmanian Van Demons and WA Diamonds down respectively and established their dominance in the event.
In the first game, OAMPS Queensland trounced Tasmanian Van Demons in a straight game by 5-0 that took place at the Cairns Hockey Centre. The two sides were looking hungry for victory before start of the game. However, Van Demons failed to show competitiveness
onto the field.
Both the teams found chances at the start of the game, but failed to capitalise them successfully. However, it was OAMPS Queensland that lit the lamp onto the scoreboard in the 14th minute of the match. Renaee Ashton notched a classic goal to
put his side ahead onto the score-board. The speed of the game was increased when Jodie Schultz doubled the tally the 20th minute of the match. Jodie Schultz unleashed a powerful shot that easily moved through Tasmanians’ goal-posts. The opening
half was ended with Queensland holding a two-goal edge, 2-0.
The players from Queensland further enhanced their speed in the second half and Tegan Holcroft managed a goal in the 55th minute of the game. In the 63rd minute of the game, Kandice Olivieri converted a short corner to expand the Queensland
lead up to four goals. However, the offence did not complete and Jill Dwyer added one more goal in the 68th minute to seal the victory at 5-0.
The second day of round two match of the Australian Hockey League (AHL) between Victorian Vipers and WA Diamonds that took place at Victoria Hockey Centre, ended with Victorians coming out triumphant at 2-0.
WA Diamonds, which wanted to break the winning-streak of Victorian Vipers, failed to score a goal throughout the two halves. Though they carried out a couple of strikes at the start of the first half of play, they failed to capitalise the opportunities.
The attacking side of the WA Diamonds continued to storm the Victorian Vipers in the first half. However, these strikes were blocked and denied from the rival side. The twist came into the game when Stephanie Riordan struck a powerful shot at the goal, opening
the score at 1-0.
The Victorians dominated the field with the ball possession throughout the remaining period. In the final minute of the first half, Victorian Vipers earned another short corner and tested Georgia Nanscawen, who didn’t miss the chance and doubled the tally
before moving into the second half.
The second half was filled with lot of attacks and counterattacks but to no avail. Both sides failed to score any goal and Victorian Vipers won the game by 2-0.
