OCBC US Open GP Gold: Chun Seang Tan crushes Ivan Sozonov to surge into Men’s Singles quarter-final
Malaysia’s Chen Seang Tan, who is in tremendous form at the moment, surged into Men’s Singles quarter-final of Yonex OCBC US Open GP Gold 2012, which is in progress at Los Angeles, USA.
In the reound-of-16 battle, Chun Seang proved his mettle against Russia’s Ivan Sozonov and thrashed him in straight games in a lopsided manner on Wednesday, July 4.
The fourth seeded Chun Seang entertained the local crowd by showing an incredible play and punished the 11th seeded Sozonov in a one-sided fashion in just 23 minutes.
The higher ranked Chun Seang was aggressive on court and he did not miss any chance to earn advantage over his rival. He earned glory in a remarkable manner by ending up the match in straight games with a huge difference on the board.
In contrast, Sozonov was shocked with the severe treatment that he received from his Malaysian rival in the opening game. However, he showed a little improvement in the following set but failed to escape defeat from the hands of Chun Seang.
The talented Malaysian shuttler showed urgency in first set and set up a huge lead over his rival by reaching at the incredible figure of 11-1 until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Chun Seang continued his smashing performance on court as he showed no mercy to his Russian challenger and took the opening set with a completely one-sided score of 21-7.
The aggressive Chun Seang again took an early lead over Sozonov in opening rallies of second game but he could not create a huge gap this time as the Russian shuttler also played better badminton this time.
Until the end of first half, the Malaysian man was leading the game with a three-point gap of 11-8.
After the break, Sozonov played with impressive speed and managed to catch up his opponent at 11-11.
At this stage, Chun Seang changed his tactics at net by taking the bird early and pushed his rival on back foot. He commanded the pace of rallies and clinched the second set with a six-point advantage of 21-15.
Chun Seang easily registered a fabulous victory over Sozonov in straight sets with a striking score of 21-7 and 21-15.
