ODI series loss hurts Sammy despite T20 win – Cricket News Update
Despite finishing the month-long tour of Bangladesh on a high, winning the only T20 International against the hosts at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur on Monday, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 tour had not been fulfilled.
The 18-run victory in the one-off T20 International against the Bengali Tigers meant the Men from Caribbean winning two out of the three formats on the itinerary, but Sammy and Co was aiming for a clean sweep across all the three formats this time around.
"We won the same amount of series as we did last year so we haven't achieved what we set out to do," Sammy said at the post-match press conference after his side’s comprehensive win in Dhaka on Monday. "Bangladesh played really well, especially in the ODIs. We are disappointed losing the ODI series," rued the visiting skipper.
The St Lucia all-rounder was, however, pleased to win the T20 encounter, West Indies’ first game since clinching the world champ title in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 in October this year.
After opting to bat first, the Windies rode on http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Marlon-Nathaniel-Samuels-c74804’ belligerent 85 not out, studded with nine towering sixes and three fours, to post a hefty total of 197 for 4.
In reply, Bangladesh started their run chase in style with the openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Anamul-Haque-c44160 looting eight fours and a six in the first three overs, which went for 43. But Sammy said that he was not too concerned about Tamim Iqbal’s belligerence (88 not out off 61).
"We expected them to come hard at us. You have to go hard all the time when the run-rate is ten an over. Although they only lost one wicket, they were short by 18 runs. I wanted to win and end the year in a good note."
Iqbal’s effort, well complemented by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mahmudullah-c1877’s unbeaten 64, was not enough to see the Tigers home, as they could amass an insufficient 179 for one from their allotted quota of 20 overs.
Marlon Samuels was adjudged as the Man of the Match for his stellar show with the bat.
