OFF Duty Border Patrol?

Are off duty border patrol agents allowed to carry a firearm while off duty? Only answer if you know for sure! Thanks!

  1. Yes, but if they shoot a drug dealer sneaking into this country they end up in prison like Compean and Ramos.  Hopefully the president will pardon them.  We should be grateful to them instead of punishing them.

  4. Yes, they can. HR 218, commonly called the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act, was signed into law by President Bush in July of 2004. It permits any sworn law enforcement agent to carry a firearm while off duty anywhere in the US.

    When it comes to law enforcement, "off duty" simply means you are not getting paid. You still have full authority to take action 24 hours a day.

  5. yes. if they are not allowed to use them on people crossing the border in broad day light why should they carry.  Border crossers give the border patrol the finger and keep on going.  Walk softly and carry a big stick I think was a saying of Roosevelt's.  Why not flex that big stick now and again for the respect that the USA does not get from any other country.
