tommorrow. I have dealt with losing many foals before but not my most favorite horse. He is a 14 to 16 yr old appaloosa gelding 14.2 hands, dark brown with few white spots and four stockings, also a star, black and white mane and tail.I wish i had a pic! I am having him put down because he has had arthritis in his hind legs since he was about 1 1/2 yrs old (old owners abused him and started him too young causing him lamness) I took him in to save his life and he has lived with me for about 9 yrs(as of right now).He has had the best life I could have ever given any horse. When I first got him...i had a black QH stud that was really old and the two hung out together 24/7 until i had to put him down(having trouble eating and arthritis)After putting him down..my gelding was all alone for years and still is.I do have 6 other horses, but they dont "hang out" with my gelding and they fight him.

I am sooooo sad.He is my baby boy.He is the nicest horse i will ever have.He is so sweet, pretty, and fun.

  1. I'm really sorry to hear about your horse. =( Keep rescuing. I'm sure that you'll give new horses a chance in days to come.

  2. I am so sorry you have to do this and I think it is a good decision. He has lived a very happy life with you and I think for his sake, you should put him down. If he is in so much pain, he can hardly walk, it is cruel to make him suffer for several more years. I am sure that this was a very hard decision to make, but it is in his best interest. His friend isn't around and he has no buddies and he is hurting constantly. I think this is a very brave and noble thing of you to do. Again I am soooo sorry you have to part with him, but it is for the best.

  3. all i can say is that i'm so very sorry and that you should enjoy what time you have left and remember that what you are doing is for the best... don't feel bad about it because it only makes you all the more miserable (i once lost a dog that was my best friend in the WHOLE world and felt awful because i didn't feel that i gave her the best last few days she could have with me... i was miserable for ages...)

  4. awww that is sad

    Be tough=]

I had to put down my old Horse Cowboy becaues of cancer.

It is hard I know but be tough that's what he would want you to be.

  5. I'm sorry you have to do this.  It's always hard, even if you think you are prepared for it.  It might take you a while to get over it, but you will eventually.

  6. I know what you are going through.  I had to put down a horse because she could hardly walk.  There isn't much else who can do when horses can't get around they can get colic and that is really bad.  I will be thinking of your and praying for you tomorrow.  KNow that you are not alone

  7. i would say just dont put him down. i would let him live his life. or bring him to a retirement farm that will take really good care of him there so that you can go and see him. it would be a better solution than having to put him down :[[[[ i am soorrryyy to hear that. i have an appaloosa too!! i would feel horrible if that had happened to me. i would be a wreck. i am sorry to hear about that. but try my idea if you can. this horse sounds like he is really close to you and you would never want anything to EVER happen to him.

i hope i helped!!! you can contact me at any time if you ever want to talk!!!! :]]] my email is jazzmin0816@yahoo.com

I HOPE YOU FEEL BETTER!!!! :]]

  8. im so sorry. thats hard. this is hard for me to read and i can't even imagine what that would be like. im really sorry and i wish there were a way i could help. as you said though, you gave him a great life! thats horrible though. i really am sorry. ill pray for you and him.

  9. its always very hard when we have to put one of our beloved down.  i am so sorry for your hard but reasonable choice.  he will no longer be in pain and just remember that you saved him and was able to give him the best life he could have.

    ssoooo sorry for your loss

  10. I just had to put my mare down July 8th, I have never done that before, it was the hardest decision in my life! we were fighting either EPM or a Spinal Cord injury, we kept her going for 2 months before she went down in her stall and couldn't get up...it took 2hrs, 3 men, a pulley and a tractor to get her up! we put her outside and the next morning she was down again and couldn't get up, she tried like 20 times, but every time she made in on all four feet, she would just crash down! so I know how you feel, I still cry about it when I re-live it in my head...

  11. Put this into story form, the journal will help you. Then read it later and you will see what we see.

  12. Hi there. I had to have my first horse put down 14 years ago and I'm still glad that I could do that for him. He suffered from elephantitis in his hind legs and he was in pain and struggling to be mobile or even stand. He had been my best friend through my teenage years and had given me so much joy that he deserved my kindness when he needed it. To keep a horse alive that is in pain and can't get better is human selfishness and you are doing the very best thing for your friend. I know it hurts but it will ease and if he could talk he would tell you thank you.

  13. I'm sorry you have to go through this right now... Just remember all the good memories you had with him and what a good life you gave him

    cheer up

  14. I'm very sorry for your situation, I do know how you feel.  Perhaps there's more going on than his lameness.  Walking in circles sounds like there's some neurologic aspect involved.

Know that you are doing the right thing for your friend and being there with him to the end is all you can do.

  15. it is really sad to have to put a horse down. but with the hole cleaning feeding thing you'll get use to it. its ganna be hard to get back into the swing things but you can do it. at least you can say good bye on last time. there have been three horse in my life that wear put done without my knowledge and i never got to say goodbye. and that will hurt even more. the first horse i was to young to comprehend the fact that i will never see that horse again. the second we didn't have for too long, but it still hurt. but the third one hurt the most. he was the first horse i ever rode. and i was told until a week later that i was never ganna see him again.(was in bad car accident parents didn't want to stress me) so go say good bye!

  16. If that is your only option according to the vets, than you have to do what you have to do.  You can remember that you gave him a good life and a good home.  It is hard, but if it's what is necessary than so be it.  Good luck.

  17. I am so very sorry to hear about your pretty baby. It's never easy to put down any animal, let alone such large, beautiful, gentle creatures like horses. I send you condolences.

Since you've gone through this before, you know that time will help heal the wounds.

Is there any way you can take a photo of your horse before tomorrow and post it? I'd love to see him.

  18. I could give you a hug right now but thats so sad. I wouldnt want a horse to be put down. I would let him live out his days. Give him a treat or two before he goes. It might make him feel better. I hope you feel better soon! I had a rabbit that had to be put to sleep last summer  because of a wound. Feel better soon!
