  1. how do i learn to dance like this???

Find an instructor and start taking classes.  Then practice at home regularly.

how long do you think itll take to dance like this???

That's a uniquely individual thing.  Moves that I find easy, some find difficult and vice versa.

what kind of classes should i take???

You probably want to start with Egyptian, Turkish, or Greek style belly dance.  Once you have a solid foundation in one style, try some of the other styles of belly dance.

You might want to start by checking with a gym or recreation center in your area. Sometimes they have dance classes, and those teachers may also do private lessons.

You can look on Shira's website.

You can e-mail or call some of the dance instructors to find out what ages they teach in their classes, more about their background, their style of instruction, what they expect from students, and fees they charge for classes. If you don't find a

teacher listed for your area, you might want to contact one from the websites and find out if they may know of an instructor who may live closer to you. You might want to see if you can contact other students of theirs to get their opinions of the classes. A good teacher should encourage this.

I hope you find a teacher that you like. If one teacher's style doesn't suit your learning style, try another. I've known some dancers to take awhile finding a setting that worked for them.

    Good luck!!

  2. Depending on your coordination and how much time you set aside for practicing, will determine how well you do.

I adore Rachel Brice and Sadie.

I been belly dancing for a few years now myself.  Lately, I haven't been dancing as much as I should, so I am now set back abit.

Once I move in a few weeks to OK, I am getting with a group by taking lessons, eventually auditioning with them.  So, I honestly say give yourself a good year of lessons (average 1 to 2 times a week. With plenty of home time: I do 1-2 hours a day) for you to really develope really good movements and get good coordination going.

Within a month, you could possibly excell greatly on hip drops or shimmy.

So in a way, no one can offically say how long it will take you, but I always say to give yourself a good year to just look widely into it.

Every instructor and dance class location will teach differently and/or have different techniques or styles. There is many different belly dancing styles. I recommend to google and youtube to get a range to expect and then go to classes to really get the feel.  I like Turkish, but adore Tribal more.

I say start now while you are looking for a class to take.  Get to know your body of what it can and can't do.

My mom and husband laugh, but while in the car or at home in a chair, I always find ways to practice my arms, chest lifts and belly roll.

It is a great technique I was taught to help "seperate" my body from upper, middle and lower sections.

While standing, I will press my hands against while standing in a door way, so I can use my lower body; yet keep my upper still.

Rachel brice has a few clips on youtube of "how to".  A few others does as well.

I mostly been taking Turkish dancing; however, I am moving more into Tribal Fusion Belly dancing now.

Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=keN17yEUI...   for Rachel's Tribal drum solo.

    and : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lQuNVk5q...  for Tribal Fusion-Goth group.

    and : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YamDoDK71...       Sadie's amazing dance and body seperations/combinations.

There is a wide range of classes to take. I would call around your local area (if you live in California or Oklahoma, I could give you some area's I been to or know people) and find what type of style, rate and times of classes.

Ask what type of dress attire they require. (Each class I been to, had a different requirement. Some wanted zills, some wanted skirts, some wanted stretch-yet fit pants with scarf with sports bra's etc).

It is HARD work and not easy to really do. Have to practice and have a true love of it. I think it is addicting to me.

  3. look around in your local paper or online for bellydancing classes. with practice you could totally be as good as them! :-D

    it looks fun!

  4. my sister took belly dancing lessons for about a month, once every week. by that time she was very good. i don't know if it makes a difference but we are half arab and i think she just had the belly dancing "blood" in her. nonetheless, i have seen some women of other backgrounds dance VERY well. it may take you longer than or shorter than a month, who knows, it's different with everyone, but i would suggest keeping to it if time goes by and you're not satisfied. it'll work out your belly , arms, and legs while you don't even notice b/c you're having fun learning. also, it's really hot. hope this helps

  5. Everyone is different, you may be a natural, or it may take a couple years. Look up belly dancing online in your area. It's getting more popular and chances are there are probably more than one belly dancing class in your area! Good luck :)
