OHL’s Red Tilson trophy winner, Goaltender Michael Houser signs with Florida Panthers –NHL Update
Michael Houser, an upcoming talent and a prospect has signed with Florida Panthers of the National Hockey League (NHL). The Red Tilson Trophy winning goaltender last season, went uncalled in last month’s draft, something that happened for the third time
in a row but he was called by Florida Panthers to sign a three-year entry level deal with them.
The deal was signed for $1.75 million for three years, making it $580,000 for first season, $585,000 for second season and $590,000 for third year whereas, for playing in the American Hockey League (AHL), he will get $45,000 for first year, $47,500 for second
year and 50,000 for third year.
The 19-year-old was wanted by some teams to join them and come to their development camp but Houser did not waste any time in deciding what’s the best for him and immediately signed the contract with Sunrise based, Southeast division team.
Houser said, “I talked to my agent pretty quickly after the draft, and there were a couple of teams that wanted me to come to their development camp. We sat down and figured out which team had the best situation for me, and we decided that Florida had the
best opportunity. I wanted to go there and earn a contract, not just fill a net and take shots. They understood that, and so I went down there and played pretty well, and everything came together for me.”
General Manager of Florida Panthers thinks that Houser deserved a chance that nobody gave him. Dale Tallon said, “His character is unbelievable, and no one's really given this kid a chance”. He also said that Houser impressed him a lot at the camp and is
looking forward to what he brings to the team. He is great battler, something Tallon likes in a player and a goaltender.
Houser had won Red Tilson Trophy with London Knights last season, a trophy which is for best player of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). He played 62 games and had just 152 goals against him, an average of just 2.47 goals against him per match, with 1862
amazing saves.
London Knight congratulated their former player via their twitter feed as they tweeted, “BIG congrats go out to CHL/OHL Goalie of the Year and our very own Michael Houser on signing with the @FlaPanthers”.
