Question:

OK, I've lost 100 pounds - why do my clothes still fit?

Seriously - I found out a while back that I was diabetic and well, I was HUGE. So, I have lost 100 pounds, I've been walking and keeping active, but not actively exercising.

But, irritatingly enough, my clothes from 100 pounds ago all seem to fit pretty well. My pants are baggy in the butt and legs, but around the waist they still fit and none of my bras have become too large, nor my tops.

This is freaking me the heck right out. What is going on here?

  1. You have found out first hand what everyone who knows about fitness tells would-be-dieters every day on this site. Diets don't work without exercise and resistance training. You get smaller but you get flabbier.

Immediately begin a regimen of weight training and your body will shape right up. Its good you lost the wieght because 100 lbs on anyone is dangerous and taxing. Now take it to the next level and get fit! Best of luck.

  2. its where you lost the weight

  3. Well, I heard that different parts of your body will lose fat before others.

Like, some women when they lose weight, the first thing to go is their b*****s. Maybe you're the opposite of that, you lose fat in your chest and hips last, which would be why your pants still fit around your waist and why your bras and tops still fit. Are your tops more loose around your tummy yet still the same around your chest?

Or...maybe you just think they still fit because you're so used to wearing them. Have you gone to the store lately and tried on a new pair of jeans or a shirt? Maybe you'll find a smaller size actually does fit you better.

  4. maybe you gained muscle! but maybeif you dont think that is maybe ask a doctor

  5. Becuase u still have all the extra skin perhaps?? When someone is HUGE and they lose alot of weight the skin still is all big and stretched out. U will have to have surgery to remove all the extra saggy skin.

  6. Probably it's because you lost the weight in other places you would not notice by putting your clothes on (legs, arms, butt, etc)

It  happens to me too, my face is the first to show signs of weight lost not my hips or waist :0(

  7. first of all....CONGRATS ON LOOSING 100 POUNDS! im jealous! that happened to me. when i lost some weight my bras were still fitting. sometimes it takes a while i guess. congrats again!

  8. because you still have extra skin you need to tone it up by exercising

  9. You didn't mention excess skin, so I'm assuming it didn't happen (not all people who lose a lot of weight have excess skin...I lost over 100lbs and didn't have any). However, your body isn't fat-free. It's still holding onto some, of course...it has to! The places your body holds onto fat is all genetic, so things like your breast and hip size, which are fatty deposits for women, may not reduce all that much while other areas get smaller. A similar thing happened to me. I have wide hips and after I lost weight, yeah, I still had wide hips. It's a fat deposit, but also how my hip bones are set. That's where all my pants/skirts sat after I lost the weight...not on my waist, but clinging to my hips. I am going to guess that's probably the same for you.

My advice is just to go buy yourself a new wardrobe. Give your clothes to a thrift store or some of your friends who are bigger and buy clothes that fit you well...in the butt and legs as well :)
