The NHL needs to have more national televised games. Here is what I think.

1) ESPN has Hockey Night once a week in which they broadcast 1 game and like baseball tonight and nfl live have updates on other games.

2)NBC continues to broadcast Sunday afternoon games but shows two games instead of 1. One early East Coast game as well as One mid-afternoon West Coast game.

3)Versus keeps random games but cuts back a little bit on how many games they show.

What do you think of that plan?

  1. I like it. I do think ESPN does hate hockey, the least shown sport of the major four. But I have to agree with Bill too, CBC is still around!

  2. honestly i think it's great and useful. NICE PLANS!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. Bill Dude. This IS the WWW. "world wide" I think he was targeting the USA.

  4. DUDE - the NHL has been televised nationally since 1952 on the CBC, and more recently by TSN and SportsNet.  Canada is a nation, eh?

  5. ESPN wanted to televise hockey games with a revenue sharing agreement, similar to NBC's contract. But Gary Bettman wanted to be paid by ESPN to televise games, and ESPN disagreed. Its more of Gary Bettman's fault then ESPN.

I like the idea but why does Versus have to cut back? I like watching Hockey Central more then NHL on the Fly, from the NHL Network channel.

  6. sam's right.  the nhl couldn't come to terms with espn for televising games, so it's not espn's fault.  regardless, other than nfl live and pti, espn sucks.  having said that, it is watched by TONS more people than vs. so having nhl games on espn would do nothing but benefit the nhl.  though i can't stand the announcers on nbc, at least games are getting coverage on a national level.  i would, if i had any say, increase the number of games on nbc and espn and keep vs. as is, for they suck as bad, if not worse, than nbc.

maybe they just need new hockey personalities covering the games???  get some big name retired stars in there to draw the viewing crowd.

  7. That's great except that ESPN for some reason rejects hockey. So switch them up with the NHL. network for US sat. users and Tsn-CbC for Canada then you have a deal.

    F-ESPN. If I want to watch dodgeball I'll turn on the Ocho'...f'n A Cotton, F'n A.
