But the one That was just asked reminded me of one I have always wondered about And have touched on be fore

Why are Ladies not better players than men??? I think they dont have the agressive edge men do .There are some -quite a few women out there that play one h**l of a game against other women but foll apart against men when they play them I think they tell themselves they cant win and dont try as hard as if they think they can win. My two favorites are Kim White & Sherrie Hudson Both North American 8 ball champions And freinds of mine I have seen them in dozens of tourns against far less skilled men But have never seen them win one -Just a local tourn-no top men at all Good shooters dont get me wrong but not top 100 for the most part

I have always thought women should make better players just by their nature -More in control .but most facing men fall short -Exception Vivian Villarreal she will take it to you .But most dont

Any ideas why Thanks Johnny

  1. The following must not be taken too serious. I am generalizing.

    1) Women have a better talet to mulitask - Men can only do one thing at a time.

    2) Women care a lot about their looks and what other people might think of them - Men don't give a sh...

    3) Women have a better peripheral vision (they see the butter in the fridge at one glance) - Men do have a tunnel vision (staring at all the single items in the fridge, shouting: "where is the f'ing butter?"

    4) Men are usually physically stronger.

    5) Men usually have a better spatial perception (eyeballing distances and angles)

Add that all up and you find most women getting distracted easier than men. They do not only see the balls in front of them but they see also the bystanders and while trying to concentrate on the shot the other brain half continues to think about these folks and what they may or may not think about them. They play a lighter cue which does not impact a cueball as much as a heavier one.

As I said before. This was generalization, which means that it is not the ultimate truth in every case. Just the fact that there are female pro's around prooves me wrong. But look at the odds and you will see that there might be something to it...

  2. you remember the other night when i told you that i ran the tables on a 7? and we finished our games with 11 innings?.....well....that was a man i won against..haha...men are totally different players than women are...it's just that we were brought up seeing men play, and that's what we're used to...but when a woman plays, she plays a different style then a man..we're not used to that...that's why we have it in our heads that men are better players than men..i'm not sure..:)........just a random guess....Dre O

  3. Better get ready. At the 06 revival of the 14:1 world champ. Jasmin Ouschan finished, I think; 5th or tied for same. Her play also included a 85 ball run. I think SHE is a mental believer.

By the way remember Vivian playing in SA at Mother's? Don't think I want to stick my foot in that bear trap again. lol

By the way Johnny is she still staked by the Seminole Nation in Fl?

  4. Most of the local ladies slow roll everything. I've even seen some of the pros do it (but I really haven't watched that much). I actually think it's lack of athleticism and coordination, plus lack of instruction from aggressive men. Most guys who are a 5 or 6 APA look comfortable playing-- their stroke may need some work, but they're comfortable. Women at that level tend to look...forced. I'm not quite sure how to explain it. Their strokes tend to be choppy and unsure. They'll do things like shoot a ball straight all the way down the rail with top to get to the other end of the table instead of giving themselves an angle and going two rails (cushions, I know-- tough habit to break :) ). My husband has worked on my game and he'd rather I miss playing a ball right than make it the wrong way. I mean, these girls find ways to get out but it tends not to be pretty.

As far as how they play the men, most women I know play well against men, or at least, well by their standards. Now, it's probably different at the pro level, because those women perhaps feel like they have to prove themselves. When I play other women, like I've said before, I fold up, and I think a lot of men are the same way (folding up against the women). I think it's knowing you're supposed to win...it's the pressure of having to pull off a sure win. I think it's different from the kind of sloppy playing you get in general when you play a lesser player, the "What does it matter; I know I'm going to get another shot" kind of attitude.

I actually talk about this with my husband quite a bit. It's funny you should mention Vivian Villarreal...He said he watched her gamble some in Chesapeake back in '89 or thereabouts and he said she played like a man: aggressive, though not as good. I'm going to Florida to play in one of those Ladies Spirit Tour events and I'll be able to write on this subject with a bit more knowledge. That tour gets the top amateurs plus some touring pros as well...I'm really curious how those girls play.

  5. Thanks Kevin, it just makes it that much harder to accept that I'll never get to marry Jasmin Ouschan.  Man, she's even an ace at my favorite game, straight pool.  Mark my words, she'll end up with some millionaire, pretentious, race car driver or lead singer in a techno band.  Oh, cruel fate!  I'm kidding of course (partially).  Here's a question, why do so many good women pool players look more like men than the men do?  But I digress.  You're all correct though.  Theoretically, it shouldn't matter, but in the real world it really does matter.  M.D.-BCA Instructor/Referee.

  6. i dont even think about it
