I should be, like acting differently and dressing all like a yuppie. I am know 17 and a senior in high school, I basically wear AE and A&F cusual style but when Im at certain functions I dress the part but he argues I should change my style i.e. change who I am. I feel that I shouldn't have to conform to meet anyone standards as far as judgment wise, If ppl can;t accept me like I am then that's not my problem, its not like its a personality thing so my question is, am I wrong?

  1. That's normal. The only time you want to "assimilate" is when you are doing business. You have to conform for the business world- but how you choose to be is just that--HOW YOU WANT IT TO BE. Is he pressuring you for being too casual or too stiff? Either way, play the part when it is necessary and be yourself any other time. Simple as that.

  2. My friend used to say," If you've sold out by the time you're twenty, you've got no heart.  If you haven't sold out by the time you're thirty, you've got no brains."

I'd say that your attitude is perfectly normal.  Perhaps, in ten years, when you have a wife and a kid, you might be tempted to rethink your position.  After all, dressing up nice for a job interview and putting food on the table for your loved ones might become more important than making a fashion statement...

  3. I wear AE and A&F too. My cousins say that I am selling for wearing those clothes and i should wear Apple Bottoms , South Pole, and clothes similiar to that but i wear clothes that I like not what people want me to wear. Some black people feel only white people should AE not black people they should gansta type of clothes. The next time people tell you what type of clothes to wear tell them you do you and let me do me !!!
