  1. I have the Chevy Trailblazer.  It's technically the 'smaller' SUV as it is narrower & shorter.  With the extended version, it seats 7 comfortably [and that means my 6'4" son can sit in any of the seats and have sufficient head & leg room]. It is a v6 too, so I usually get nearly 20 mpg in town and better on trips.  I have loved it.  In my opinion, the seats were the most comfortable for the price range & size of the vehicle and it drives more like a large car than a truck [but it will haul as necessary].

When I bought mine 4 years ago, it was 1.5 years old and I paid about 18k from a dealership.

  2. Hyundai Santa Fe has more room, but the CRV, Rouge, and the RAV4 are more reliable. Although the Hyundai does have a 100,000 miles transferable warranty.

  3. Get a used Jeep Commander.   You can't go wrong with a Jeep in my opinion.   (But that is just my own opinion).

  4. One daughter has a Pontiac Torrant and the other, a Merc. Mariner, both love them. I thought riding in them that the Merc. was quieter, roomier and better riding.

  5. Toyota RAV4

    and Mitsubishi outlander.

No, really. But only like the 2006 models and up, as only those seat 7.

  6. Look at the Honda CRV, you can find an older one (before 2004) for under $15,000 and they have a decent amount of room inside for passengers while still being a small and fuel efficient SUV.

Gets 20 city 26 hwy mpg too, which is very good for an SUV.
