  1. Ha!  Some cats do it this way; not sure why.  One of my cats dips her paw into the water bowl (which is pretty large) and licks the water from her paw.  It's very cute, but messy.....

  2. He may not like putting his face down into the bowl. Some cats are uncomfortable with having their whiskers pushed back when they have their faces in their food bowls.

  3. He must not like eating out of the bowl. My cat hurries up and grabs a mouthful and runs away to eat it. She also dips her paw in her water bowl and then licks it off. It's really cute.

  4. try getting a larger bowl... one that is wider in diameter, so that your cats whiskers dont touch the sides. If this does not solve the problem, it could just be that your cat is playful, and you may need to just spend some more time playing with it.

  5. I read that when cats do that it goes back to their wild ancestors. Cats that lived in the wild had to "test" the water before they drank to make sure there weren't predators lurking in it. The thing is, no one knows why that mannerism stuck with them throughout all these years. My cat does it and so does my Mom's. It looks like they're taking a bird bath! haha cute
