OKAY. When you order "Chilis To Go" do you tip?

Or, any curb-side pick up for that matter. Do you tip the guy at the counter who hands you your food?

My girlfriend and me went to Chili's tonight to pick up dinner. The guy at the counter was like "uhhh...here it is." And without looking in the bag, just kind of "shook" it to verify it's contents.

It was really awkward, and I almost didn't know if he was joking or not...so we just kind of paid and left. In the car my girlfriend pointed out their was a space to "leave a tip" that I hadn't even seen/ knew existed.

Is it wrong that I didn't leave a tip?

Ask anyone, and you'd know at restaurants I ALWAYS leave good tips for good waiters. Way above the average tip for good service. But this guy just kind of has the most cake job ever, is he really supposed to be tipped?!?

Sometimes I have gone and ended up waiting a bit. They offered me free drinks so I gave them a couple bucks. It's a nice gesture if they have gone above and beyond.

No, I sure don't.   In fact, I don't know anyone who does carry-out with Chilis that leaves a tip.  The one in my area in near a large University, so the students there don't have much money anyway.

Whenever I go to Chilis and pick up food, I do not tip them. Simply because the person at the counter is just handing us our food. They are not a waiter, and they are not a cook.

I am like you, I leave good tips for the waiters I have. But the people at take take out counter at Chili's--sorry...no. lol

The guy was probably just an idiotic jerk who wanted some compensation for..well..picking up a bag of food and handing it to you. Lame.

No, you do not have to tip but it is very much appreciated by the person who boxes and brings your food. 10% or so will suffice but do not feel guilty if you do not leave a tip.

You don't have to leave a tip. They do receive regular minimum wage.  However, even though they aren't serving you for an hour, they are still verfying everything that you need is in that bag. However, if they bring your food out to you in the car for curbside pickup, then it is more approriate to tip them.
