  1. 1st metaphor: Tamed in the net of his mind:

This conveys a tone of awe with the powerful

mind of the humans. It shows that humans can control the animals through his

intellectual thinking. The ability to create cages for birds and lions is an example of this.

2nd metaphor: His wings ther shield of snow.

He/She gives warm protection to someone who is in trouble.

The wisest have somtimes been known to count a few coins too many:

What i understand about that is, even those who know the law very well have still the tendency to break it in exchange of even a small amount of money. And that happens may times.

From my research, you took this out from Antigone's line. Maybe you'll just have to get the context of the script so you'll have a better view of the point.

  2. The metaphors sound like parts of a poem - hard to know for sure without the rest of it, but the first one makes me think that "he" had some idea or obsession that he was able to bring under control by thinking about it - or maybe he's in love and has all this burning passion in his heart, but he's a realist in his mind and has tamed it.

    #2???

The Cliche...count a few coins too many...maybe it's overestimating how much something will cost (in money or effort) so that you're prepared to meet the unexpected.  Just a guess.
