OKC...why Barons?

This is probably a retarded question but I don't understand why OKC is considering Barons as their nickname. I understand the connection with Wind and Thunder but I don't see the connection with Barons. Aren't barons the name for French and other European warriors...specifically like fighter pilots?

But Im not sure why that was even a choice, it makes no sense for the team.

Like how Heat, Suns, Magic, Sixers, make sense for the city.

they havent officially picked thunder yet...that guys an idiot.

barons are just like when teams pick random animals for their team names. barons just sounds cool. not all nba team names have connections...and yeah, they dont wanna sound like college teams.

The New Orleans Hornets says it all.

Mostly connection doesn't matter, they just don't want to sound like a D-League team or a highschool Division II one.

What up grrrrr,

It's kind of a funny name - and i was surprised when i went to yahoo yesterday and there was a poll for 6 names- and Baron's was in first place with 38% of the vote (thunder was a distant 2nd at 26%).  

i think they were being facetious but i saw a picture of snoopy as the Red Baron- and i was like oh no!  i can't imagine what kind of logo they would have.  

Hoping that some element beats out the Barons.  i know the owner is from there but i'm still trying to figure out why OKC.
