OL Bryant McKinnie heads to Baltimore Ravens training camp 50 pounds less in weight – NFL News
Baltimore Ravens’ offensive lineman, Bryant McKinnie, is confirmed for training camp starting from 25th of this month after the player managed to cut his weight down to 350 pounds.
Ravens kept the lineman out of the three-day minicamp, asking him to slash his weight by training camp. It had hovered around 400 pounds, as claimed by his former employers, the Minnesota Vikings.
Bryant denies he had weighed 400 pounds while being at Vikings, saying they had exaggerated it.
He said:
"I never was. That was exaggerated by the Vikings."
It is good that the trick of leaving the lineman out of the mandatory training camp for the conditioning purpose has worked out for the Ravens. The development is equally beneficial to the player’s career.
The lineman added:
"(The Ravens wanted me) to be able to still have that conditioning to get through that fourth quarter, still play at a high level in the fourth quarter as well."
Bryant arrived in Baltimore just before the start of the 2011 National Football League (NFL) season off Vikings' waiver. He was released by the team because of the weight concerns.
Irrespective of the controversy how much exactly the lineman weighed at Vikings, Ravens knew he was overweight and asked him to cut a few pounds before arriving at training camp.
This made him realise his dietary issues, as he admitted to be on fish and chips type of food, now returning to greener stuff. He is finally happy to control himself against the compelling junk food intake, and finally reaping the benefit
of it.
Ravens have not offered any comments on the latest positive development on the fitness front of the player. Yet they must be pleased with their choice of holding McKinnie out of the minicamp and pushing him into the conditioning workout
instead.
This had led to a sort of controversy but it was not a surprised decision of the team given the weight has always been an issue for the player all along.
