OLED is the advantage simply in the thickness, or are the picture qualities going to be improved?

The thinness is the least important of OLED's advantages.

OLED seems to have the potential of overcoming the disadvantages of both Plasmas and LCDs.

It has faster response time, uses less power, higher contrast ratio and better color reproduction.

It's still in the development stage, although small units are available-and it's very expensive. I suspect that if you buy an LCD now, similarly priced OLEDs will be available when it's time to replace it. See link.
