OMC 305 with 800 stringer 1976?

Question

runs ok then after a while at 2800-3200rpm, come down off the plane. runs very rough, lots of smoke in exhaust, stalls repeatedly when close to idle. wondering if this is a symptom of water in fuel tank and a "full" water filter? love this boat but it has been a real pig!

It could be water in your fuel,but you really shouldn't be getting

any smoke unless you have a blown head gasket.What colour

is the smoke?If it is white then you probably have a blown gasket.You can find this out by doing a compression test.This

would also be the cause of your idling problem.Hope this helps and good luck.
