OMC Trim Switch question?

I have a 1982 Omc with trim switch in handle it will operate if you push up, but when you push it down it blows the ignition fuse. The trim does operate bot up and down if I use a jumper wire to it. Is the switch bad or should I look elsewhere?

  1. I had a 81 OMC years ago. I had to install another switch on the dashboard instead of fixing the throttle mounted switch.

  2. This handy switch location had some problems. The wires squish down the handle-then do a rotation around the control box axle and to the plug or wire bundle coming off the key switch. The down wire is cut at one of those sharp bends it is subjected to-or where it spins around the handle.

  3. Reverse the wires on the switch first. Thus making up-down and down-up. If it still blows the fuse( only now it should blow when pushing up ) look for a broken wire that is grounding out.
