  1. A few years ago, my husband's computer began to have popups really bad. Most of them said something like "Warning, Your computer is at risk. Virus Alert" in very large letters".  His browser was infected with "IE Helper". It is Adware that is  installed, behind your back so to speak, along with some other program. It becomes part of your browser, so many Adware detection programs just see it as your browser.  At the time one had to remove it manually by deleting registry entries and deleting a few files.  I'm sure by now that there are more adware programs that are able to detect and clean it.  I  found a web page that has a free scan for it and a downloadable removal tool here:

  2. Probably if your using 7.5, it dosen't scan adware. If your using 8.0, I have no idea.

    Hope I Helped! (If your using 7.5)

  3. Hi there,

    If you've performed a full scan using AVG and you still have strange advertising/p**n popups that popup out of nowhere - you most likely still have spyware installed on your computer. Sometimes antivirus programs such as AVG solely develop detection signatures for just viruses, and often miss nasty adware software.

    You have a number of choices;

    1) Upgrade your Anti-Virus to a security suite which will give you a "FULL" protection suite of tools. The best example I can give you is Kaspersky 2009 Internet Security.

    2) Download and install a reliable Anti-Spyware program such as AdAlert. This program is known to disinfect nasties such as the rogue anti-spyware program - XP Anti-Virus.

    There's a guide in the link below showing how AdAlert was able to REMOVE spyware such as the XP Anti-Virus virus.
