Please explain the process if you have experienced it! And does it hurt (like is there alot of pressure involved?)???

I need some advice/support!

  1. I got my braces off a little over a year ago. It did not hurt at all don't worry there will be a slight pressure and taping when they take the brackets off. But it very simple and quick i think i was in the chair for less than thirty min.

PS make sure you wear your retainer!!!!

  2. no it doesnt hurt at all.

they have these plyer things that they clamp onto the glue of your your brackets and squeeze and they come off, they scrape off the glue and polish your teeth to get the excess glue off. retainers dont hurt to put on or take off, just make sure to wear them when your orthodontist says so because it hurts a lot if you don't wear them often then have to put them back on. i've had my braces off for a year and i wore my retainer when i was supposed to until i was supposed to start wearing it only a few times a week, now it hurts like h**l if i try and wear it at night.

  3. Removal:

I've just taken a poll among my sisters and myself, and we all agree: it didn't hurt at all, and it was over very quickly. There was maybe a little pressure, but nothing horrible. It's SO much easier than getting them put on!

There's an explanation with pics here, and this is exactly how all three of us had ours done (at different orthodontists over several years):

None of us had sore teeth. And we were all totally entranced at running our tongue over our teeth--they felt so incredibly smooth!

    Retainers:

Both of my sisters had the bonded bottom retainer put in and that also didn't hurt at all. The orthodontist essentially just sort of slides it in and cements it in place. It isn't putting any pressure on your teeth because it is just maintaining what you already have. My sisters both say that it did take a little getting used to once it was in (your tongue isn't used to it being there, so you have a tendency to play with it a little bit), but again, it didn't hurt.

My sisters also had removable clear top retainers, whereas I had removable top and bottom retainers. The retainers are usually cast from a mold of your teeth and fit snuggly over them. They aren't uncomfortable, as long as you make sure that you KEEP wearing them--if you stop and then start again, you'll have to shift your teeth back into position and that DOES hurt a bit. In general, the removable retainers are just a little weird to get used to--you may feel like you're lisping a little bit until you're used to them.

At the very bottom of the following page, there is a retainer section that shows pics of both of the retainers you should be getting:

Anyway, don't be scared. It really IS the easiest part of the whole process!!!

  4. well to be quiet honest with you putting on retainers or whatever you do is going to be much better than having the braces.

it doesnt hurt but you wnt be used to it at first and try to feel your braces and figure out that theyr not there haha

just remember to keep it on as needed(told by your orthadontist)because if you dont, your teeth may be start to get unaligned in the following years.

just listen to your ortho and nothing cld go wrong!

    good luck

  5. It's not scary at all he takes off the wire then gets a tool to get the cement off.  The only thing you might not like is the taste of the cement so you'll rinse your mouth a few times and your teeth will be sore for the first few days and then youll just get a retainer fitted probably the same day or the next and have to wear that

  6. well, i have braces now

but i also had them when i was 11

i had them only on 4 of my top teeth to straighten them, when you get them taken off the orthodontist will take some pliers and loosen each bracket and then take them all off at once with the wire. They then scrape the cement off each tooth, which feels really weird and is slighly painful, mostly just pressure though, unless you have sensitive teeth. You have nothing to worry about, its less painful then getting them tightened. Good luck!

  7. it doesnt hurt, it just kinda feels a little awkward. first the ortho takes out the wire as if he was gonna change it. then he uses this tool to kind of twist off the brackets, it really doesnt hurt it just feels kinda funny. and i found it awkward when he scraped the cement off my teeth. retainers arent bad at all....they dont hurt a bit. dont worry. you will be perfectly fine = ]
