  1. As a person who knows a little about gymnastics, since my high school sweetheart got beaten out of the Olympic women's gymnastics team in 1984 by Julianne McNamara, I think I know a little bit on the subject: The judging in this Olympic games, and in particular the diving and gymnastics, I have to agree is a lot more unfair  than I've ever seen in my 42 years. This is more than just "Americans and sour grapes". On the balance beam, Cheng Fei went first and had what I counted as 4 minimal balance corrections  along with one very large balance correction (flailing arms and one leg up in the air) as well as a giant step on the landing - she didn't even come close to sticking it. That's a total deduction, at the very least of 1.2 points on execution. This would make the execution score - at the very most, because I think there were more mistakes in her routine - of 8.8. There was a Russian gymnast and a Romanian that performed their, evenly difficult, routines better and were scored worse. In fact, the other Chinese gymnast (who's true age is a matter of who you ask), that fell off the beam actually outscored some of the other competitors. Think about it, folks, these kids work their butts off for this, maybe one shot in a lifetime at this, and get misjudged as blatantly obvious as this has been and it's a real shame. We all (well at least most of us) know that there is a slight "home field" advantage when it comes to the Olympics, but this has been absolutely horrendous. Now, why do you suppose that the Chinese gymnasts and divers are getting over-scored? In fact any event that relies on judging, they've been over-scored. Well I think you should really take a shot of reality: It's very political: 1) China has very cheap labor and there are countries vying for that cheap manufacturing; 2) If you look at the scoring from communist countries (10's from Cuba, etc. on the Chinese divers the other night where there was a good dive, but the rip wasn't great and, in fact the entry was very arched), it's quite obvious of the political gains from a fellow communist country. In summary, yes, there is always going to be some 'home field' advantage in the Olympic games, but, due to the nature of the Chinese government and how sub-par performance is an embarrassment to the Country, there is obviously a lot to be gained from swaying judges from  other Countries that would have some sort of political interest. It's not that hard, people: I would advise you to take an objective look at the performances in a week or two, if possible, to revisit this and it will be as plain to see as the nose on your face. You can't classify it as sour grapes when you are saying that people from other countries besides your own deserved better scores - what could a simple person gain from that? It just happens that there were some Americans that suffered from this unfair judging and Sacramone was one of them. When you vault and land on your hands and knees - even in practice - you typically cry, knowing that you've just "blown it" from all the gymnastics practices and events that I've seen, and that was a ridiculous misjudgment on the scorers' parts - even more so than the outrageously high score Fei received after her less-than-average (in fact poor) performance on the balance beam last night. Cheng Fei has been over-scored in almost every event. Period.

  2. Ok, firstly, there were two vaults. Both done the first vault just fine.

It was the second there was a landing difficulty, and the difference between the difficulty levels is why Sacramone didn't do so well.

The A Score is difficulty, the B score is Execution. A doesn't change, B can be deducted from for mistakes. By starting with a low A score, you can come close to ensuring a very good B score, but there is less total points you can get. For example, on Vault 2, the most Sacramone could get was 15.8, while without a problem, Cheng Fei could have gotten 16.5. Sacramone was playing it safe. What really killed it for Sacramone is the 0.2 start she gave Cheng Fei on the first vault. The average between Sacramones two "safe" vaults and Chengs two harder vaults - even with a fall - only worth 0.8 deduction, was always going to be bigger.

You can see in there scores, Cheng got her Execution score flogged on her second vault. But there were 2, and she nailed the first one and that ended Sacramones days by 0.03 points.

    Sacramone:

    Vault 1: A: 6.30 B: 9.450 - Total: 15.750

    Vault 2: A: 5.80 B: 9.525 - Total: 15.325

    Final score : 15.537

    Cheng Fei:

    Vault 1: A: 6.50 B: 9.575 - Total: 16.075

    Vault 2: A: 6.50 B: 8.550 - Total: 15.050

    Final Score: 15.567

  3. If you don't know how the score is calculated:

It is not just execution that counts, difficulty is an equally important factor. Like diving, if you perform an easy dive, you cannot get a high score even if you dive perfectly. On the other hand, if you pick a max diffculty dive and did not do well, you might still get a good score.

Difficulty: 6.5 is the maximum difficulty, not many finalist dare to try that, including Alicia Sacramone. I don't remember exactly, but she was performance moderate diffculty vaults. Corrrect me if I am wrong, I don't remember she did any 6.5

Both Chung Fei vaults are 6.5 max diffculty. She perfromed the first one very well with minimum error, which gain here a very high score of 16.0xx. She failed on the second 6.5, but because the diffculty is very high, she still got a 15.0xxx. the average is 15.5xx

Ironically, the vault she failed was named after her a few years ago in world championship as she was the first person who performed that.

Show sportsmanship when you fail, your atheles in Beijing are doing very well but not you.

  4. You're not the only one. I believe Alicia got ripped off a medal and I hope she gets her revenge against the Chinese in 2012.

    Good luck

  5. I think Bela Karolyi is a person who knows what he is talking about when it comes to gymnastics.  He said Alicia was robbed. He almost cried he was so mad about it.  The judges did not penalize china for other obvious flaws in the vault. The hands were obscure on the vault, her feet were apart, her body was not square. She simply botched the vault.  She did, however, perform a vault that was named after her !?!  The judges obviously gave her the medal just because of who she is.

  6. Yeah it sucks.  Not only did she land on her knees but her hands were different places on the vault which is another deduction.  Yet again China gets overjudged and cheated to win another medal.  I hope they enjoy knowing that most of their medals are not earned, they were won through cheating and judges being paid.

Amazing the brazil girls almost lands on her knees and gets a 14.7, but the chinese lands on her knees and get a 15 something.  Bull.  It's wonderful to see the judges being consistent in favoring and helping China win medals.  I wonder how much they are paid.

  7. They can't even play a game properly.

    This is pathetic.

  8. This has happened with the Chinese women the entire Olympics.

  9. yeah wtf

  10. Get a clue kiddies.  China started with nearly a point ahead due to her difficulty scores.

    Quote from Yahoo

"But Andrei Gueisbuhler, secretary general of the International Gymnastics Federation, said Cheng won because her vaults were harder. The start values for both of Cheng’s vaults were 6.5. Sacramone’s first vault had a 6.3 start value, but her second was just a 5.8.

“The difficulty of the two vaults added up together was a huge difference between third and fourth place,” he said. “(Cheng’s) execution scores were as low as 8.5, which tells me that the necessary deductions were made. It might look strange at first sight, but if you look at the rules and the regulations, everything is as it should be.”"

  11. China cheated with the scoring.

They gave their own people a higher score,no matter how bad they did.

They dont deserve half their medals...

  12. isnt it kinda strange that the only people who get those breaks r the chinese?

  13. It sucks, maybe under the old scoring system Alicia probably would have ended up with the bronze however this is the new code where difficulty can compensate for falls and mistakes. Cheng Fei's start values were a full point higher than both of Sacramone's vault which allowed her to edge out Sacramone. Cheng Fei was deducted the 8 tenths of a point for the second vault but the average of her vaults of which the first one was almost perfect just edged Sacramone out.

  14. so she fell she got 8 teth of a deduction, she only got like 15.05 or something, she would have gotten 16. Her difficulty was 6.5 on both vaults, but alica sacramore's difficulty was 6.3 and the other difficulty was a 5.8. chung fei did not knock alicia sarcramone out of the medal,  the german one did, and that peoples rupblic and some other country.

EDIT: the person above me is so stupid, the judges are international, there is either no chinese or just one chinese judge. tehre are like 10 judges, she is so stupid.
