  1. I'm in Grade 11 too (Canada), and here's all of the courses that are offered at my school:

Core Subjects (These are all the ones you pretty much "have" to take):

    ENGLISH

    - English 20-1 or 20-2 (depending on whether you're academic or not)

    SCIENCE

    - Biology 20

    - Chemistry 20

    - Physics 20

    - Science 24 (if you aren't academic)

    MATH

    - Pure Math 20 or Applied Math 20 (depending on whether you're academic or not)

    SOCIAL STUDIES (HISTORY)

    - Social Studies 20-1 or 20-2 (again, whether you're academic or not)

    Electives/Options:

    -Foods

    -Fashions

    -Communications Technology

    -Art

    -Drama

    -Musical Theater

    -Rock and Pop

    -Band

    -Film Study

    -Personal Psychology

    -French

    -Spanish

    -Japanese

    -German

    Other Information:

Some schools offer the option of taking AP (Advanced Placement) or IB (International Baccalaureate) classes to challenge yourself and prepare for college. Having just been home schooled for four years, I wouldn't recommend taking these courses as they'll probably just make you more stressed out. Talk to your school counselor about how you feel... all of the counselors I know are very nice, and they should be willing to help you get used to being in a public school again. You could also talk to your teachers if you need any help; most are willing to help you on any concepts you don't understand after school or at lunch.

Don't worry! Being home schooled, there's a chance that you don't know some of the stuff other kids in Grade 11 already do. But there's an even greater chance that you already know some stuff that the other kids don't... so you'll actually be ahead of the rest of the group in some subject areas. Use your school's counseling resources well, because they'll all really help you in going back to public school. I know everything will turn out great! :)

  2. Take a HUGE deep breath. Now let it out. It's gonna be ok... :)

What you have to take changes in each state - and I'm not sure where you are to give you specifics.  Most states (and schools) require an english (like, composition or literature, or just plain 11th grade english).  Usually you have to take a math (your placement might determine that, it's usually Algebra 2 / Trig, Pre-Calc, or Calc.)  We had to take a science (like, Bio 2, Organic Chem, Physics ect - again that could depend on what you've already studied, how you do, and what you want to take).  We also had the second 1/2 of US history that year - civil war to present...that I think was a state thing, other kids I know had like, european history, world history ect.  (You might get to pick that one too).  And gym :p   Those are the biggies that colleges (and state boards of ed) are looking for usually.  You should have some elective options (like, music, or art, or shop or computers).  Some places also require a specific number of foreign language credits - like my state made you take 2 years of any language.

    Good luck - I'm sure you'll do fine :)

  3. I think by the time you get to 11th grade you should be on American Lit (for English class) or English/European Lit and you should be up to Algebra 2 or Trig in math.  You can try Pre-Calc if you want, but I wouldn't recommend it.  Calculus is a pain.

Don't forget to take government and American history (World History first if you haven't taken that yet) and I would HIGHLY suggest taking a foreign language and taking the ACT so you can get into college.
